Photo Book of the Week – Nina Pohl

Nina Pohl – Nina Pohl
Snoeck, 2007
ISBN 9783936859584

I have had this book for a couple of years and originally bought it because of a recommendation. The work inside is not my usual taste, but the way Nina Pohl handles her subject matter has always impressed me. The work definitely has a Gursky-esque feel to it, but is injected with the humor and care of Roe Ethridge. This play between extremely formal compositions and a sense of emotion create a very enjoyable book. I also think the success of this body of work, for me, is seeing it in book form instead of what I assume would be huge glossy prints on spacious, white walls.
