Erik van der Weijde – Siedlung
Published by Roma Publications, 2008
I originally picked up this book because the look and design of it blew me away. The truly minimal design and simple layout really compliment the imagery. Van der Weijde’s images of Nazi housing settlements are a little off-putting concerning the subject matter, but looking at the imagery itself and comparing the structures reveals a sort of naïveté behind this idea. Taken out of context, these images have a similar quality to the weirdness of suburbia in the USA during the 50s. I also really enjoy that this book can be subtly understood in a short period of time, but it only gets better and better the more you look at it.
